Scaled from two to 10 consultants
Partnership extended to future clinical programs
The Client
The client is an emerging biotechnology company developing a first-in-class antagonist antibody for the treatment of inflammatory autoimmune diseases.
The Challenge
In early 2025, the organization was preparing its investigational program for Phase 1 clinical trials while manufacturing activities were already underway. With trial initiation targeted for Q4 2025, the client needed to quickly add quality control (QC) capacity to support critical release-testing activities and keep key development milestones on track. The immediate need was for two QC analysts who could quickly integrate into the organization and contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
The challenge was not simply filling opening positions—it was rapidly adding qualified technical capacity without disrupting a time-sensitive clinical program. As a smaller biotechnology organization, the client lacked the bandwidth to simultaneously execute essential work while recruiting, hiring and onboarding QC professionals.
The urgency was amplified by competition for experienced QC talent in one of the nation’s most concentrated biopharmaceutical markets. Delays in securing the right talent could have affected release testing, manufacturing activities and clinical timelines, potentially putting the planned Phase 1 trial at risk. For the client, maintaining momentum was critical to advancing its lead therapeutic program, achieving key business milestones and continuing to scale the organization.
Actalent's Solution
Actalent worked closely with the client to understand the clinical and project timelines driving the need, the specific QC activities requiring support, required technical competencies, preferred start dates, project duration, budget constraints and long-term organizational plans.
Using compensation benchmarking and local market insights, Actalent developed a targeted recruiting strategy focused on qualified QC professionals. Based on the client’s need for speed, flexibility and specialized expertise, contract talent was identified as the most effective solution. This approach enabled the organization to quickly expand technical capacity while maintaining flexibility around cost, project duration and headcount.
Actalent assigned a dedicated recruiting team focused on quickly identifying qualified QC professionals who could contribute with minimal ramp-up time. The strategy was designed to protect release-testing timelines, support critical milestones and reduce the burden on the client's internal team.
The Results
Actalent successfully addressed the client's immediate QC capacity needs, enabling the organization to maintain critical release-testing activities and support key clinical development milestones.
Rather than treating the engagement as two individual role openings, Actalent built a scalable workforce solution aligned to the client's clinical timeline, technical requirements, budget and anticipated growth. Once consultants were placed, Actalent remained actively involved throughout the engagement, providing interview introductions, first-day support, regular performance feedback, and ongoing communication with both consultants and the client.
As a result, the client met the critical release-testing milestones and successfully progressed through its Phase 1 clinical program without sacrificing speed, quality or operational focus. What began as a need for two QC consultants evolved into a broader partnership, expanding to 10 total consultant placements as the organization's workforce needs grew.
Actalent continues to support the client's clinical development efforts, including recruitment for analytical development talent ahead of a planned Phase 2 program in Q3 2027.
The engagement evolved from an initial request for two QC consultants into a broader workforce partnership that expanded to 10 consultants. The result was a scalable talent model that supported the organization's growth as its clinical programs advanced and demonstrated how flexible workforce solutions can help emerging biotechnology companies rapidly access specialized expertise, maintain momentum and budget flexibility, and adapt talent strategies.
