Actalent Encourages Employers to Rebuild and Strengthen Their Workforce Through Personalised Engagement

New whitepaper introduces rules of engagement to help companies and employees thrive together

Hanover, Md. (Aug. 11, 2022) – Actalent, a leading engineering and sciences services and talent solutions company, has released a new whitepaper in its Fire Series. "Lighting the Fire Within" assesses recent workforce trends and outlines six rules companies should follow to personalise engagement for their employees. By implementing these practices, companies stand to improve retention, performance and productivity.

Nearly half of U.S. companies rank labour shortages as a significant issue. Quits are at the highest level since data was first recorded in December 2000, and employers are competing for talent across state and even country lines. As employees leave companies, workplace fractures remain—workloads get transferred, managers melt down and morale plummets. With inflation continuing to break records, the gap between available jobs and available workers is expected to widen—especially as the workforce ages and the birthrate declines.

"The last few years have been nothing short of challenging for both companies and workers. But we've also learned a lot about how—and where—people work best and what really matters to them," said John Flanigan, vice president of strategic operations at Actalent. "If companies want to remain competitive in this market and find the right people to stay, prioritising talent engagement is a must. Managers and leaders need to feel empowered to act in this area, and this paper outlines different ways companies can achieve their workforce goals inclusively, where both they and their people can grow and prosper together so everyone wins."

The paper details six rules of engagement—practical, straightforward steps that employers can implement immediately to build meaningful, collaborative relationships with employees, provide a personalised employment experience, and achieve improved results in retention, performance and productivity.

"If companies are looking to adapt, it's important for them to take a hard look at everything they've learned and then be willing to do what it takes to implement the necessary changes," continued Flanigan. "It takes both consistency and persistence to succeed in this rapidly evolving market. The most important thing to remember is that with more listening and authenticity, it's possible to cultivate a thriving cycle of engagement and overcome scarcity."

The first paper, "First Come Droughts, Then Come Fires," describes the contributors to the labour shortage. The second paper, "Manager Meltdown," describes the effects of the labour shortage on those expected to navigate companies through it—our managers.
